I perceived a genuine lack of intellectual honesty as well as an absence of true knowledge of God's Word.
Despite their objections, there truly is no such thing as an ex-Christian:
John 6(KJV)
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
One of the many replies to my brief excursion into the land of the lost was:
I took a look at that website. What a joke. I mean, seriously, that page that tells how "we know there is a god" is nothing but circular reasoning in action. :
We "know" there is a god because the bible says so...and the bible doesn't lie because it's the word of god...and we "know" it's the word of god because it says so...And THAT is how we "know" there is a god...because the bible says so...and the bible doesn't lie because it's the word of god...and we "know" it's the word of god because it says so...And THAT is how we "know" there is a god...because the bible says so...and the bible doesn't lie because it's the word of god...and we "know" it's the word of god because it says so...And THAT is how we "know" there is a god...
It's like your brain is on a hamster wheel.
Of course, what we are seeing is a preconceived objection, not an argument based on the content of the post regarding the existence of God, which was primarily:
Romans 1: (KJV)
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Simply stated, one needs look no further than the created world around him/her (him/her also being among the created) for evidence of God the Creator.
The very fact that a non-believer would misrepresent their case in a pitiful attempt to make a point, only lends credence to the verses following the above:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
I read the site that you contributed to and I have to say that you really are a glutton for punishment. Not only do they depise people of faith, but they seem to be blaming a God they claim not to believe in for the past hurt in their lives. What a shame. They do like claiming to have an enlightened position based on science and progressive thinking without realizing that lack of evidence does not disprove the existence of something or in this case someone. I suppose that claiming that religion and Christians are responsible for whatever hurt and pain you may have encountered in your life is far easier than looking at and acknowledging their particular responsibility (and they may not have any responsibility in some cases) or more realistically that an individual who may or may not have his heart in the right place just messed up because we're human and that's what we do.
This site is not about disproving the existence of God. It is more about shifting blame for the way the world is. If you want to have a better understanding of God in regard to why there is pain and suffering in the world, The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis is an excellent resource from the point of view of an ex-atheist.
